March 2021

Happy spring! We're sharing several pieces of exciting news and events this month.

California has marked a new milestone for balancing grid needs and consumer protection for utilities with new reporting requirements regarding the use of a smart inverter function.

In Puerto Rico, the village of Castañer will receive support for a solar energy microgrid project as
part of an initiative led by The Solar Foundation.

We recently announced that IREC will now host Customer Grid Edge (CGE) committee, and the first meeting is tomorrow, March 26. In addition, don't miss the Solar Career Fair on Thursday, April 8!

California Marks Important Milestone for Balancing Grid Needs, Consumer Protection
in Key Smart Inverter Function

New reporting requirements for California utilities will provide greater customer protection regarding the use of volt-watt, an important smart inverter function. Volt-watt is one of the “scariest” smart inverter functions for customers and developers, and this is a first of its kind customer-facing development for smart inverter regulatory issues from the only state that has fully implemented the function.

Castañer, Puerto Rico Selected for
New Solar Energy Microgrid Project

The village of Castañer, Puerto Rico has been selected to receive support for a solar energy microgrid project, as part of an initiative led by The Solar Foundation and Pathstone Corp. to strengthen Puerto Rico’s solar industry and build more resilient communities. The microgrid project will include a solar energy and battery storage installation for small businesses that provide essential goods and services for the people of Castañer, which was without electricity for six months following Hurricane Maria.

The Solar Foundation and its programs will be merging with IREC this year.
